Soapstone Sink: The cleaning process

I take out the dish drainer first, then completely scrub the dishpan with full strength dawn before moving it onto counter.  It's always SUPER greasy.

Once everything's out, scrub the walls and basin with detergent and a scrubbie brush of some kind, not the sponge.  The soapstone has lots of nooks and crannies, the water you see as you scrub will be foul!  It's amazing how much stuff is in that sink.

Thoroughly dry sink before proceeding to next step.  If you squeegee the extra water out, then lay old dish towels in it for a few minutes, then give it like 20 minutes of just air drying...that works well.

The sink looks very different when it's dry.

Then get the mineral oil out.  I have a dedicated oil rag in a bag, also.  Too much scrubbing for paper towels, and I'm not going to ruin my dish towels with this job!

Once it's been oiled, walls and basin, wipe excess oil off with a dry cleaning rag.

Put everything back in, and it's good for another few weeks.
